In Their Own Words…

“Volunteering with GBP at ISO brought purpose and happiness back into my life. I look forward to my shift each month more than my birthday or any holiday. Knowing I’m playing a small part in these dogs’ lives, who otherwise wouldn’t have had another chance, means everything to me. I’ve also made lifelong friendships with the other volunteers, and I always leave my shift with my cup overflowing with love and gratitude.”

“Volunteering in the isolation unit for GBP has been a truly meaningful experience for me. There is something special about being able to offer comfort, patience, and care to dogs who may be frightened, uncertain, or simply in need of some extra attention. Getting to know each dog and watching them gradually become more comfortable and trusting has been incredibly rewarding. The work has also taught me a lot about compassion, resilience, and the importance of simply being present. Some days are more challenging than others, but the small moments, seeing a nervous dog relax, a tail start to wag, or a personality begin to emerge, make it all worthwhile. I’m grateful to be able to play a small part in their journey, and it has been an experience I would genuinely encourage others to try if they have the time and desire to make a difference.”

Kim

“Volunteering at ISO to me means being one step on a dog’s journey to their best life. Whether it is cleaning kennels, playing with puppies, or just simply sitting in the same space as a scared or shy dog, I love knowing that I am making a meaningful difference in their lives. It is hard, fast-paced work, and I often go home exhausted at the end of the night, but always with a feeling of gratitude that I get to help with this amazing team rescue effort. Giving these dogs, who are so deserving, love, hope, and a second chance is honestly the most humbling and fulfilling thing I could imagine. I consider myself lucky to get to work with a compassionate team of volunteers who also feel the same way.”

“I enjoy volunteering with GBP at ISO because I’ve had dogs my whole life, and it’s a way to give back and feel part of a team. I love seeing all the dogs come through, each with their own story. To be able to play even a small part in their journey is something I find incredibly fulfilling.”
